Punch!

punch-bowl

Remember when we were kids and we would go to parties and proms and drink punch that had not been spiked??

Well, actually, I don’t.   I have  a false sense of nostalgia for punch in big beautiful bowls, chiffon dresses,  horn-rimmed glasses and Frankie Valli playing softly in the background, because this is the world I would rather live in.

So throw away those bottles of soda you normally serve and pull out your fine crystal punch bowls because today we are devoting to Non-Alcoholic Punch recipes!

Mock Champagne Punch (Serves 20)

It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to!

  • 1 1/2 liters Apple juice
  • 2 liters ginger ale
  • Grenadine Syrup (substitute with raspberry or cherry syrup if needed)

Combine apple juice and ginger ale in punch bowl. Add grenadine until light pink color appears. Serve over ice.

This recipe calls for the creation of an Ice Mold.  I’m not entirely sure what that is but it sounds pretty rad.  Here is a recipe for one:

Ice Mold Recipe For Punchbowls

  • To a 6 cup mold (experiment with different shapes and sizes), fill halfway with water or juice that will complement punch, freeze until solid.
  • Remove from freezer and add leaves (edible leaves such as mint) or fruit (such as orange or lemon slices, strawberries, cherries or pineapple rings).
  • Carefully pour a bit of water around the leaves and/or fruit to hold in place. Freeze until solid.
  • Add additional water to the top. Freeze overnight.
  • De-mold by placing bottom of mold into cold water.
  • Wrap in foil and freeze until ready to use.

Floating Hearts Punch (Serves 24)

Strawberries cut in half create 24 floating hearts in this punch.

  • 1 can frozen fruit punch
  • 2 liters Sprite
  • 1 liter vanilla ice cream
  • 12 strawberries cut in half

Let frozen punch thaw. Pour all ingredients into punch bowl and stir. Top with strawberries

So break out the Hand Jive and add an element of nostalgia to your July 4th party!
